Through an invitation from the Jordanian
Opposition Factions and the Vocational Trade
Unions , Dr. Engineer Sufyan Tell the
International Consultant in the Environmental
Affairs delivered his second lecture in the
vocational Trade Unions Complex – Amman evening
of Sunday 10- 2004
The lecturer has divided his lecture into three
chapters , the first one about the gulf war 1991
ad the second about the gulf war on 2003 and the
role of the depleted Uranium in both wars. And
the third chapter about entering the war of the
scrap war contaminated with the depleted uranium
radiation into Jordan.
Gulf War on 1991
For the war on 1991 , the United States of
America claimed that it was a clean war. But a
study was conducted on the types of the weapons
used in South Iraq whereas the concentrated and
intensive bombing . During the same time of
conducting the study, news stated in the eastern
medias that the coalition countries had used a
radiological weapons against Iraq, and inspite
that the war continued for 42 days only from
17th January until 28th February , the volume of
the missile reached to 141921 ton of explosives
equal 7 nuclear bombs of Hiroshima caliber bomb
. The plane A10 was armed with a 30 mm gun of
seven cylinders equipped with the depleted
uranium ammunition.
The study depended on analyzing of models of
destructed wrecked tanks and vehicles and
analyzing the soil in the vicinity of the
wrecked as well as the far away soils, the
results shows the contamination of the soil and
the models with depleted uranium. Also , it was
proven that there are wide areas of
contamination of lands while another wide areas
of lands exposed the radiation contamination as
a result of the movement of the wind and water.
Dr. Sufyan Tell shows a picture for non
explosive rocket from the depleted uranium which
was found in the vicinity of an oil pump station
in Kharanj which similar in its form , color and
size the form of cigar, in addition to that
Professor Sigart Jounter who is the researcher
and specialized in the medical radiological
impacts on the same rocket on the high way
between Baghdad and Amman. His attention was
drawn as a result of its peculiarities and it’s
heavy weight while the children where playing
with it. He carried a sample of it to German to
conduct the necessary tests, where he was
accused that he entered a radiological items
into Germany and he forced to take out . He
found with one of an Iraqi child 12 of these
radiological rockets playing with them. These
rockets contain a radioactive materials of 11
Microsoft/hour power, whereas the allowed limit
for the labors to expose to it is 50
Microsoft/year
The child daughter kept these rockets was died
with the ( leukemia ) blood cancer. Dr. Tell
shows pictures to Professor Jounter with a group
of children whom they were playing with the
remains of the shells, and of these Childs used
to sleep in one of the rocket shield. Also , he
showed pictures for the hole made in the tank
body for 9 cm thickness.
Dr. Al-Tall showed the results of some
radioactive measurements done 1994 on some
of the intended objects. In the oil pumping
station Kharanj, the amount of target exposure
was 83 micro roentgen/hour and the same applied
on some of the tanks that recorded 65 micro
roentgen/hour whereas the exposure time duration
almost 7.
Dr. Tell pointed to the countries using the
depleted uranium which they are Britain, France
,Russia and countries they are using it as a
penetration items in it’s rockets. Also these
weapons were obtained by both of Greek, turkey ,
Israel, Kuwait , Pakistan, Thailand, South Korea
and Taiwan. And the United States of America are
prohibiting countries from possessing it for a
national security reasons.
The lecturer pointed out to the destruction of
14 July reactor, and confirm that the united
states and the Zionism entity knew that bombing
the reactor in it’s operation condition will
result to disseminate the radioactive materials
and kill the people. Inspite of that , the
reactor was exposed to a concentrated aerial
bombing since the beginning of the war and until
cease fire , and the intention was clear to make
an environmental and health disaster among the
people , putting in mind that the reactor was
built and developed by the knowledge of the
Nuclear International Power Organization and was
subjected to an inspection visits. As it was
confirmed by the International Organization
reports that the reactor is allotted for the
peace purposes.
Unfamiliar sickness cases
The lecturer talked that the study posted the
unfamiliar sickness cases and recorded after the
dissemination of the radioactive fallout
throughout the military theater of operation as
well as the ambient areas several unfamiliar
cases such as :
• Unnatural Mongolian malformation
• Embryo congenital malformation
• Availability of unnatural additional organs
• Swollen & baggy head Fuentes
• Fuentes without head
• Injuries in the eye and even conceal the eye
• Bone malformation and correlative inheritance
• Unnatural chromosome
• Skin sickness and un interpreted hair dropping
• Contagious vertigo diseases
• Sever vertigos with formatting and loosing
balance
• Vision malformation and loosing sight in part
of the eye.
• Unexplained Impotent for both genders.
• Increase of worry for the leukemia sickness
for the children
Embryo congenital malformation was recorded in
the sheep and goats of the newborn of 1993
included the front , rear and the head of the
limbs and a complete or partial penalization
before the delivery.
When checking the sickness of the palm trees, 4
cases were diagnosed danger which is the
malfunction and stunt of the palm trees branches
and dry rottenness on the palm branches ,
weakness of the head of the palm tree , and
getting the neck in the palm and this last
sickness resulted in the death of 120 thousand
palm trees on 1991. Dr Tell shows pictures of
getting the neck of the palm tree.
We point out , that the objective is not to
beaten the Iraqi forces as much as destroying
the Iraqi infrastructure. The bombardment aimed
eight dams ,which they are Saddam dam,
Al-Qadeseyeh dam, Dakkat Dam,Samerra dam,
Al-Ramadidam, Al-Koot dam and Al-Koofeh dam in
addition to the irrigation water system in
Al-Mashakheb and Basra beach.
Dr. Tell concluded the first chapter of his
lecture for the worried that Iraq had extended
about the soldiers of the Arab Countries whom
they participate within the correlation forces ,
whereas he called these Arab Countries to
conduct medical check-ups on their soldiers whom
they participated in the battle after he
discovered the impact of the depleted uranium in
Iraq and Yugoslavia specially when the European
countries which participated in the war of
Yugoslavia and conducted these check-ups on
their soldiers.
The Gulf War on 2003
Dr. Sufyan Tell started his lecture about the
war of 2003 with a study about the depleted
uranium done by the United Nations , whereas the
study shows that the uranium is an agent which
is available in the nature and one of its uses
fields is generating the nuclear energy and it
has in it’s natural picture three major
radioactive isotope such as u238, u235 and u234.
But for the depleted uranium is a secondary
production for the uranium fertilization in the
nuclear energy generation industry which is a
process depleted the radioactive isotope 234
completely and two third of U235 m after that
the depleted uranium will become equal perfectly
the U238 isotope and it’s radioactive eqal to
60% of the natural uranium radioactivity. The
depleted uranium may contain a slight amount of
another radioactive isotopes leaked into it
during the treatment. The depleted uranium has
the chemical, physical and poisonous
characteristics as the same ones in the natural
uranium.
Then the lecturer offered a group for pictures
for the different assorted of missiles
Carrying the depleted uranium and design for one

after launching a depleted uranium rocket.
The lecturer offered the study conducted by the
Uranium medical research center Which has an
interest in measuring the radiation level in the
shields and the surrounding areas and the impact
on the health on the people living nearby and
analyze samples of the soil and water as well as
the urine of the persons. He offered pictures
for researchers , two of them were exposed to
the sever radioactive poisons during their
radioactive measurement taking. Then he offered
a picture for tank was bombarded with the
depleted uranium while it was surrounded with a
cloud. He pointed that the rocket penetrates the
tank and 20% of it converts into uranium oxides
forming a cloud which will kill everyone in the
tank even it was not exploded. After penetration
60 % of the rocket /shell keeps his form , while
40% will be converted into fragments and cause
fire and explosions. He stated that the ratio of
the radioactive in the penetration locations in
the tank exceeds more than 30 thirty thousand
times than the normal level, while inside the
tank will be 10 times double and around it 2-3
times.
The lecturer stated that 44% of uranium oxide
has particles less than (1) micron inhaled and
remain in the lung and 33% from the uranium
oxide cloud emerge with the fallout and smoke
and move from one place to another and entered
in the lung and never come out.
Using the depleted uranium against the Arab
Dr. Sufyan Tell pointed out the first use of the
depleted uranium against the Arab was during the
1973 war by the Zionism entity . Also, America ,
used in the gulf war 1991 billion shells and
bullets equal to 320 ton of the depleted uranium
and it affected more than 100 thousand soldiers
of the correlation forces and appeared on them
what is called the symptoms of the second gulf
war. Also hundred thousands of the Iraqi people
were affected as well as the military operation
sites in Kuwait. The United Stats of America
used in the gulf war 2003 double of the previous
quantity.
But for occupied Palestine, the Zionism army
used the depleted uranium in Gaza and Al-Khalil
(Hebron).The Palestinian Authority has lot of
analysis conducted outside assures and confirm
that. The Authority will apply for a resolution
project to the United Nation Program next
February claiming from the Nuclear Energy
Organization to conduct a survey in the area as
they did in Afghanistan, Iraq and Balkan.
The Medical Risk of the depleted Uranium
Concerning the medical risk , Dr. Tell pointed
out that a large number of the depleted uranium
melt in the blood, and urine and 11%
precipitated in the kidney and 20% in the bone
and causes a poisonous effect in the nerves and
affect the embryo and placenta and leads to
congenital malformation and decrease in the
embryo weight and converted into the cells and
trauma leads to cancer.
Particles moved from the hands into the mouth as
a result of touching the contaminated equipment
or eating contaminated food and drinks or a
contamination of an injury with the uranium
fallout or from the fragments. Concentrations in
some of the injured personnel in Afghanistan
reached to 30 times double the accepted limit.
The study concluded that the inhabitants of the
areas closed to the injured Armour are suffering
from join pain, nasal hemorrhage and a nerve
infections , pain in the back and complications
in the eye sight and urine burn and all these
symptoms are similar to the ones of the
radioactivity contamination.
Deal with the war radioactive contaminated
remaining
Dr Tell pointed out the occupation forces
encouraged the Iraqi people to dismantle and
remove thousands of engines and injured and
burned vehicle spare parts and they did that
hoping to get benefit from that, but the
examinations found that the radioactive level
with one of the persons whom they dismantled the
vehicles one thousand times more than the normal
level. And this appeared on his hands, face and
clothing. Also the ratio of the radioactive
material in one of the martyrs clothing buried
beside one of the tanks (2000) thousand times of
the normal level. In addition to thousands of
children whom they played with shells, fragments
and different types of tanks.
For the occupation forces they moved some of the
injured vehicles and tanks and scrapped off the
soil beneath the vehicles and replaced them with
new soil and shifted the soil to a far places
away of their soldiers.
This confirm establish a recognition by the
occupation forces for the dangerous of the
contamination by radiation and shift it from
location to another without warning the civil
inhabitants to avoid getting close of it.
Dr. Tell offered pictures which was transmitted
through the BBC for the depleted
Uranium research team while they are wearing the
protective clothing and masks , and he wondered
if the Jordanian Government had provided our
sons on the Iraqi borders whom they are checking
the scrap arriving from Iraq with such
protective clothing. But for the scrap available
in Kuwait , the lecturer pointed out to what is
published by the Kuwaiti Alzaman Newspaper issue
no. 672 dated 15/04/2004 as spoken by Engineer
Samir Asfour the Radioactive Protective
Management Director who acknowledged the
availability of vehicles contaminated with the
radioactive material out of it 150 damaged
tanks, and a discussion is going now with Russia
ti burry them in their lands. As well as Dr.
Adel Asfour the Private consultation surgery
Center Director pointed out in his press release
on 31/03 2004 that the center had recorded 1100
case injured with cancer last year most of they
are Kuwaitis.
Tests also made on the blood, urine, bones and
lunges of an American, Canadian, Britain ,
Bosnian , Afghanistan and Iraqi dead soldiers as
well as the alive soldiers and it was proven
that they have depleted uranium in them.
Dr. Tell transmitted from American Daily News
Paper that Professor Dr. Isav Dwarkofetch the
atom and nuclear medicine expert, he discovered
injuries with the radiation poison among the
American soldiers whom they did not participate
in a combat battles but they inhaled the uranium
oxide.
Also the American Scientist the nuclear physics
expert Leonard Deenz stated that lot of
radiation injuries will be shown on the American
soldiers in the future because the impact of
uranium oxide is on the long run.
Also the BBC pointed out that the fear of
radiation is not limited to the civil population
of Iraq, but the British soldiers are worried
that they themselves had exposed to it.
Acknowledgement of the West with the dirty war
Dr. Tell presented a set of documents concerning
the acknowledgment of the West with dirty war
such as :
1- The British Minister of Defense Mr. Malcolm
Rivekend letter to Mr. Daivid Steel dated 6th of
December 1994 which he stated in it :
The British forces used 88 depleted uranium
missiles against Iraq , but the American forces
used quantities greater than that of those
missiles in it’s tanks and aircraft 10 also ,
the letter acknowledged the dangerous affects of
the arms.
2- Lomond Diplomatic Paper in it’s issue dated
10/04/1995 , whereas William M Erken the chief
of the national security institute in Washington
stated that : the quantity of depleted uranium
exists in the missiles used in the war against
Iraq amounted at least more than 300 ton, the
paper pointed out the large potential danger in
these missiles on the children and whom they
keeping it for it’s radiology and sever poison
which still in the bombarded areas.
3- But for the American Green Peace Organization
stated that :
The coalition forces left behind it in the
battlefield 1992 almost 300 ton of depleted
uranium and on the form of fallout and radiation
which spread and covered thousands of miles ,
and it is afraid it will penetrate into the
underground water and the food preparation and
inhaled by the human being.
4- Dr. Dogh Roukah Ex Chief for the Depleted
uranium project in the American Ministry of
Defense stated that : “ using the depleted
uranium as a crime against God and human being ,
whereas , using one gram of the uranium in
America is considered a crime , they bombed
hundreds of tons in the other countries lands,
If America had justified the occupation of Iraq
, by let hi get rid of the vast destruction arms
, how they interpret using this weapon.
Certificates and pictures from Iraq
Dr. Sugyan Tell quoted some of the specialized
personnel in Iraq such as :
1- Dr. Raid Qassass the Chief of the Health and
Environment in Baghdad city Council whereas he
stated that : the registered number with the
Iraqi Ministry of Health ranging between 120 and
140 thousand injury adding to it 7500 new
injuries annually.
2- Dr. Mahdi Abdel Qader specialized in the
cancer sickness stated that : The last ten years
carried to the Iraqi people from the new weapons
that resulted lot of new sickness such as the
cancer”.
3- Dr. Nahla Ali professor in Baghdad University
– Science College stated that “ we notice in the
children hospitals cases of malformation and
strange births leads almost in the death of the
infant after a short period of his delivery.”
After that Dr. Tell presented 25 pictures for a
malformed children such as head swallow , eyes
or large malformation in the face, trunks ,
limbs and even disappear of the head or the face
form.
Entering of the Iraqi War scrap into Jordan
Dr. Sufyan Tell classiefied the Iraqi scraps
into two types L First is the military vehicles
and the bombarded factories and the second one
new factories , vehicles and extensions
factories it was dismantled and robbed for the
purpose of opening an opportunity to the
American companies to work in Iraq with what so
called “ Rehabilitation of Iraq”.
In cautioning from the dangerous dealing with
any scraps contaminated with the radioactive
material , the lecturer presented the caution
distributed by the United Nations to their
employees from the risk of the depleted uranium
which stated as follows :
( The United Nations warned it’s employees from
the potential danger to expose t o ammunition
which contains the depleted uranium on the
health , as well as the International
Organization spokesman Fred Akhard declared and
ordered not to touch and shells wreck . This
order is addressed to the United Nations
elements whom they are working in the conflict
areas where these ammunition was used. The
coalition used an ammunition contains the
depleted uranium during the gulf war in Iraq
1991 then The North Atlantic Coalition use it in
Bosnia 1994-1995 and in Kosofo 1999. The human
relations office in his letter addressed to all
areas that the depleted uranium was used
ordering the employees not to touch any arm
wrecks what ever the situation will be….)
Based upon that Dr. Sufyan Tell explained that
according to what is stated before from
information , and after he had received an
information about the intention of the Jordanian
Government grant the permission to enter this
scrap into Jordan , he prepared an statement
under the title” the depleted uranium between
Baghdad and Amman, put in brief all the previous
information and caution from the consequences of
permitting these scrap to enter Jordan.
Then he presented the sequences of the events in
this subject as it was dealt in Jordan. The
Jordanian press specially the weekly press this
statement, and the official authorities started
commenting on this subject, whereas they bought
six sets of radioactive measuring instruments a
and distributed them on the boarders then
started to announce on the tongue f some
employees that they will not allow this scrap
which is contaminated with the radioactive
material to enter Jordan. But Dr. Tell proved
through the official correspondences which he
presented their reference
Number and date of issue. The radioactive
contaminated scrap had entered in Jordan and
stored in the warehouses of Al-Zarqa Free Zone,
also the scrap shipments contained shells and it
was exploded in the free zone and resulted in
death as the press talked about it and it was
stated the killed people were from the
expatriates
Dr. Tell wondered whether if the explosions
which occurred from the depleted uranium or not
? because non of the incharged personnel comment
on that.
The Jordanian Nuclear Agency had raised the
reservations on the radioactive contaminated
shipment after the owner of it had paid a
financial penalty for an amount of (2000) Jordan
dinars for each radiant source. Based upon the
stories of the Jordanian press , these radiant
sources were berried in the Jordanian desert ,
and the lecturer wondered in any area of the
tribal frontages these scrap were berried? Is it
buried in the frontages of Bani Sakher or
Al-Al-Serhan or Al-Jabal Bedwen or Al-Huwaitat…?
Did the red head cover (Kifaf) and the inclined
hobble deserve this impiety.
In light of that , it was decided to open a new
Free Zone in Al-Hatmeyeh close to Al-Muwager
municipality and thousands of tons were stacked
there. Also another explosions occurred there
and people were killed from the expatriates and
the inhabitants of the area protested against
that and they exchanged with what is stated in
the statement distributed among the local press.
Also , they threatened to carry out a sit and
block the way of hundreds of these trucks
arrived daily to the site. They complained also
for the bad smell emitting from this scrap and
they questioned the lecturer about the secret of
this smell, and he explained that it is the
smell of the our Iraqi martyr remains which
continued to be stick with destroyed vehicles
and later on they confirm that they saw bodies
remaining in the destroyed vehicles.
A representative from Al-Hatmey inhabitant meet
with his Excellency the Prime Minister who
promised to transfer the site to another one ,
and it seems that a new site was opened on the
Iraqi borders and they started moving the scrap
from Al-Hatmeyeh area to other places.
Dr. Sufyan Tell pointed out that Al-Hatmeyeh
site is located in the vicinity of Bani Sakher
and it is not too far from the house of the Late
Akef Al-Fayes the father of his Excellency the
Prime Minister except for 15-120 KM.
Dr. Tell presented pictures for the fleet
carrying the scrap which was estimated between
200-300 trucks Daily.
But for Aqaba Private Zoon , it did granted the
permission to get the scrap enter it but in
conditions , whereas the commissions’ council
had agreed to get the scrap enters for the
purpose of storing but the quantities must not
exceed in any time more than 1000 ton. In lieu
of storing , they will pay 4 Jordan dinar per
ton in condition do not give a country of origin
certificate to these goods. Dr. Tell questioned
, how this will be reflected on the reputation
of Jordan abroad when the facts become clear and
the source of it become known from Iraq and
passed through Jordan and the possibility of
it’s contamination with the radioactive
material.
Also Aqaba port which still incapable to solve
the problem of the containers stacked in the
port for a long period of time, and this will
add to it’s problem another one such as the
scrap problem and its consequences.
Dr. Tell pointed out also that the Iraqi
military spare parts arrived in Israel for
rebuild and reconditioning to be re-exported to
the African countries that their armies are
dealing with the same type of trucks and
weapons.
The Scrap subject in the Jordanian Parliament
Dr. Sufyan Tell pointed out to the question
addressed by the member of the parliament
Suliman Abu Ghaith to the government about the
subject in his letter number 2-1910854 dated
14-9-2004 and the answer of the government that
it was entered into Jordan on 2003 more than 44
thousand ton as well as from the beginning of
this year until 31-8-2004 (63)thousand ton, and
the radiation is being checked on eh borders and
return the contaminated ones.
In light of that Dr. Tell stated that the scrap
had entered into Jordan from the month of May
2003 but in secrecy and with hurly – burly and
without checking the radiation. Also , the
government did not answer the questions that Dr.
Tell had mentioned in the press about the
situation of the Jordanian drivers that they
prove on the boarders that they are carrying
radioactive contaminated materials and returned
them without answering that they got
contaminated themselves with the radiation as
well as their trucks which was contaminated also
, works to move other material inside Jordan.
Cost of Treatment
The lecturer talked about the possible treatment
costs, whereas he pointed pout to the statement
issued by the Ministry of Health Undersecretary
before weeks that one medicine bill in Jordan is
estimated with 160 Jordan dinars annually and
this figure equals 9.1from the total national
income and it is considered from the large ratio
among the Arab countries , but Dr. Tell
questioned how much the cost and treatment and
the costs of treating the cancer sickness will
be currently and how much the costs will be
during the coming few years. If our infants
delivered as we have
noticed in the pictures that we have presented
or if the cancer sickness had spread out may God
do not permit.
He conducted a comparison among the revenues of
Aqaba Private Zone for an average of 4 Jordan
dinars per one tom and the quantity of storing
one thousand ton, it means it will be four
thousand Jordan dianrs only. Whereas the price
of one injection administered by the cancer
patient reached to 3000 Jordan dinars.
The lecturer assured that if the possibility of
entering the radioactive scrap do not exceed 1%
, so it is possible not grant the permission to
enter it. Putting into consideration that the
boarders are opened and smuggling is in full
swing and out sons whom they are examining the
radiation and the Jordanian drivers whom they
are carrying the scrap are not in a safe
position from getting injured with this
sickness.
International War Crime
Dr. Tell concluded his lectures stating that
expertise in the international law considering
the use of the depleted uranium is an
international war crime and he confirmed the
statement of Dr. Dogh Roka the ex chief of the
depleted uranium project in the American
Ministry of Defense : utilization of the
depleted uranium is a crime against God and
human being”.
He wondered also , if this is a crime, who mage
the Iraq scrap get entered into Jordan. He added
, either may be merchants whom they rule or
rulers whom they are trading. Bin Khaldoon
stated in his preamble that this is an
indication of the nations collapsing.
In light of what is stated above , if the ones
whom they made this scrap get entered in Jordan
know the damage of the radiation and insist to
get It entered , they must be put on trial as a
criminal and if thy did not know it’s damage and
get it entered , they deserve not to be ruling.
